My Thoughts on Bullying

A close friend of mine was bullied all through high school. From a primary source I have learned of the long-term effects of bullying which include low self-esteem, lack of confidence, and sometimes even thoughts considering suicide. To this day I do not understand what could make one person do something like that to another person. I cannot fathom how bitter one must be to want to hurt someone and push him or her to the point of not wanting to live. It is a shame that sympathy cannot be taught in a classroom setting and must be learned through experience because in most cases when the bully finally learns of his or her wrong doings it is far too late. Bullying scars a person forever, its effects cannot be understated. I feel we hear of the term bullying a lot, but very rarely do we ever stop to think about what it feels to be bullied and how we can help prevent it. I wish that I could have been there to help my friend out in high school, but since I was not I try to help those around me not go through the same thing. Do not wait until it happens to someone you know, because like I said, it is a permanent damage.
