My Favorite Movie
My favorite movie is Say Anything with John Cusack, directed by Cameron Crowe. The movie is a romantic drama which is a genre usually a bit too cheesy for me, but I connected with this movie because of how it covers the topics of morality and the relationship between a daughter and her father. A girl, Diane Court, that is accustomed to doing the right thing finds the balance between having fun and being responsible. She also questions ideas that she was brought up believing which I admired about about her because previously she did everything to please her father and this broke her out of that cycle. It is an admirable thing to me, to question something you have believed all your life and to question something that your most trusted advisor advocates. The movie also focuses around the innocent love a genuinely good guy has for a girl that, based on society's standards, appears to be too much for him. I love how the movie crushes this belief by allowing the two to be together. In the movie Diane Court does not see Lloyd Dobler as a "nobody" who will amount to nothing, but as a great person who treats her right and constantly reminds her how much he cares about her. The movie exposes love as what it can be when two people care about each other and though this may appear to be more fiction in our contemporary times, it gives hope that pure love can exist.
